How can Labour reset standards in public life and improve trust in our politics?

  • Labour Party Conference 2024 ACC Liverpool Arena Room 6 L3 4FP (map)

With Keir Starmer declaring restoring trust as the “battle that defines our political era”, reforming the UK’s standards landscape will be a key agenda for the new Government. With Labour seeking to reassert its credentials around upholding public standards - and avoid standards issues distracting from its wider agenda for government – delivering a significant reset will be required to meet these challenges. This event will explore how implementing key reforms such as the long-promised Ethics and Integrity Commission and recently announced Modernisation Committee will work and what else should be done to restore trust in politics.

Hosted by Institute for Government, with Spotlight on Corruption, Transparency International UK and the UK Anti-Corruption Coalition.

Featuring:

The Rt Hon Lucy Powell MP, Leader of the House of Commons and Chair of the Modernisation Committee

Stephen Bush, columnist and Associate Editor, The Financial Times

Tim Durrant, Programme Director at the Institute for Government

Dr Susan Hawley, Executive Director, Spotlight on Corruption

Duncan Hames, Director of Policy and Programmes, Transparency International UK
